The Paper Towel Method
There are a couple methods to germinate seeds. One is termed the paper towel method. Watch this video to see the paper towel germination method in action.
You can also follow these instructions to learn the best way to germinate seeds.
- Take a white paper towel sheet and soak with water. Squeeze all excess water out of the paper towel.
- Lay paper towel sheet flat and place seeds on wet paper towel. Leave space between the seeds.
- Fold paper towel sheet over the seeds and completely envelope seeds by folded paper towel.
- Place folded paper towel in warm dry area. Check often, at least daily, to keep paper towel very wet.
- After three days, unfold paper towel and look for sprouts from the seed casing. It’ll look like this:
Once Germinated, What's Next?
When the seed sprouts outside the seed casing it is ready to transplant to your grow medium. The next few days and weeks are fragile for the new growth. Special care need be taken. Proper lighting, grow medium and adequate moisture is necessary. At this point, controlling the grow environment is of primary importance.
